New Jersey Awards More Funding to TBI Research and Treatment Development
July 9, 2010 | MSNBC

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has awarded $100,000 in supplemental funding to the development of treatments to prevent secondary complications from a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The funding was awarded to Edge Therapeutics, Inc. as a supplement for an Edison Innovation R&D Grant of $500,000 awarded to them in November 2009. The funding will go towards the research of novel treatments in the prevention of secondary brain damage caused by sudden head injuries. Complications caused by TBIs, which occur days or weeks after the initial head injury, have become a very prevalent national health issue. More than three million Americans live with permanent disabilities caused by TBI.

The grant and supplemental funding will provide important research to the development of effective treatment of TBI complications. "We are pleased that the State of New Jersey recognizes the potential value that our proprietary approach may bring to patients stricken by sudden brain injuries," said Brian A. Leuthner, President and CEO of Edge Therapeutics.
